World AIDS Day 2021
Every December 1st (World AIDS Day), we host a large gathering at Cherish Uganda. This year was another success!
The day becomes a celebration for how far we have come in changing the story of HIV into a story of hope. Every year, the events vary - we hosted a 5K in 2019 and this year we hosted a week long futbol (soccer) tournament, races, matoke peeling competitions and more!
The day is also used to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS through speakers, skits, and panels. This year, 177 people were tested for HIV, 98 people donated blood, and 640 received their 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine to help boost their immunity against COVID-19.
There was a special guest in attendance- CEO, Brent Phillips! Due to the pandemic, Brent had not been to Uganda in 2 years. It was an incredible reunion for the Cherish team and friends in attendance. We are so proud of our team for organizing yet another wonderful World AIDS Day!
